When ten-year-old Ann learns her beloved neighbor Wally is lost at sea after his Navy ship was torpedoed in the Pacific, she refuses to believe he is gone forever. Ann is sure he is out there somewhere, waiting for rescue.

 

     Ann is convinced that once the United States and its Allies win the War, the Navy will send ships to find him.   Enlisting her friends, she schemes and hatches plans to help with the war effort so Wally can finally come home.
